Southbound U.S. 1 shifts to its final lane pattern as Glades Road and I-95 work stacks up this week
Day and night closures on Glades and I-95, a free Gumbo Limbo walk, and Amadeus at Lynn.
This is a week to give yourself extra time on Boca's roads, with lane closures on U.S. 1, Glades Road and I-95, some by day and some overnight. If you would rather be on foot, Gumbo Limbo's free guided boardwalk walk starts at 10 a.m. today, and a West Boca takeout is waiting on a surprise follow-up inspection.
Southbound U.S. 1 from Camino Real to SE Mizner Boulevard at SE 5th Street was scheduled to shift into its two left lanes, a layout meant to last. The switch was set to begin at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, as the corridor's final traffic pattern. Northbound is the tighter squeeze for now: it runs single-lane in the same stretch until Oct. 16 while crews do drainage work and repurpose the roadway. Daytime drivers also face on-and-off lane closures each way at the Camino Real intersection, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, for signal work.
Glades Road takes hits day and night. Westbound between NW Executive Court and Butts Road, one lane closes 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday for sidewalk repair. From U.S. 441 to Boca Rio Road, one lane each way closes 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. through Thursday, Oct. 15, for new pavement markings. On I-95, the HOV lanes shut overnight, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., both ways from Clint Moore Road north to Jupiter's Indiantown Road through Oct. 15 so crews can replace overhead signs; they close again Oct. 19-22.
The southbound shift is the only change described as the final traffic pattern.
18 violations at a West Boca takeout spot on Yamato Road
An inspection on Oct. 8 turned up 18 health code violations at Gary Woo Express, the Chinese takeout restaurant at 9874 Yamato Road in West Boca. Inspectors found sushi rice held at 84 degrees, well under the 135 required for hot food, cold foods like bean sprouts and cabbage sitting in the 70s and 80s, and a hand sink by the dishwasher blocked by a rack with its water shut off. It stayed open. A follow-up the next day, Oct. 9, recorded two violations again, and one more inspection is coming without notice.
