Gumbo Limbo Nature Center hosts Nature Connections on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to noon at 1801 N. Ocean Blvd. Admission is free for everyone. The city describes it as a talk about the wild side of Florida and doesn't narrow it beyond that, so expect a general half hour rather than a single-species program. It's part of the city's weekend talk lineup at the center. If you're headed over, the outdoor aquarium feeding starts at 12:30 at the same address, which puts both inside one trip up North Ocean.
Palm Beach Food & Wine tickets are on sale for December
Tickets are on sale for the Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival, back for a 19th year Dec. 10-13. The run covers 24 culinary events with wines curated by Wine Spectator. New this year: a cooking class with Mauro Colagreco at Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, a Disco Brunch at Arthur & Sons with Giorgio Rapicavoli and Michael Schwartz, a two-day Brennan's brunch pop-up at Pistache, and a Bollywood experience at Ela Curry & Cocktails with Pushkar Marathe and Maneet Chauhan. It closes with the 19th Grand Tasting: more than 50 local chefs and more than 100 wines rated 90 or better. Schedule and ticket options vary by event.
Nothing Bundt Cakes opens on Linton at 9 a.m. Saturday
Nothing Bundt Cakes opens its Delray Beach store Saturday at 9 a.m. at 420 E. Linton Blvd., Suite 800. That's one town north, so it's a weekend errand rather than a Boca opening. The deadline to cure a rejected vote-by-mail signature in Palm Beach County was 5 p.m. Thursday, and it has passed. There is no longer a window to fix a flagged ballot for this election. Voters who want to know where their ballot ended up can check the My Status page at VotePalmBeach.gov; a blue RECEIVED or COUNTED means no action was called for under the notice. Ocean Blvd. While native fish, stingrays and other marine life eat, staff walk through how mangrove and coral reef communities connect and how fish use both habitats. It's free and it's fifteen minutes. It starts a half hour after Nature Connections ends in the same place, so the two together fill a midday hour without any planning on your end.
A slasher metafiction opened Thursday at Cinemark Bistro Boca Raton
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma opened Aug. 20 at Cinemark Bistro Boca Raton. Jane Schoenbrun directs. Hannah Einbinder plays Kris Williams, a queer filmmaker trying to reboot a fictional 1980s slasher franchise, and Gillian Anderson plays Billy Presley, the reclusive former final girl Kris wants back on screen. Expect something that moves between camp, homage, parody and think piece rather than a straight horror sequel, and that takes on the genre's sexist and transphobic history instead of just enjoying the nostalgia. It's complex, personal and unusual, and not built for a mass audience.
