Limani Grille is finally coming to Town Center
A three-year restaurant wait nears its end, road projects continue through the school restart, and Memorial Park's plan moves toward a contract.
School is back while major road work continues. Meanwhile, a restaurant announced nearly three years ago is finally expected at Town Center.
Limani Grille is now expected to open this fall at Town Center, 6000 Glades Road. The Mediterranean restaurant was first set for spring 2024. Construction delays stretched the wait to nearly three years. Its menu will center on fresh seafood grilled over charcoal in the Greek style. Ingredients will come from South Florida and across the Mediterranean. Boca Magazine also reports an Aegean coast-inspired dining room and a large patio. There is still no firm opening date. The project now has a season and a clearer picture of what diners can expect.
The road crews did not take the school year off
Major state road projects on I-95 are still active as the school year starts. County road work is adding more delays. BocaNewsNow tells drivers to allow a lot of extra time this week. Its warning covers Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth and Wellington. In other words, this is not one bad Boca corner or one short detour. Check your route before you leave. If you drive to work or school, add more time than your normal trip takes.
Memorial Park's master plan hits a real deadline
The downtown civic area and Memorial Park plan moved into talks in late July. Resolution 86-2026 set the final ranking of firms. It also told the city manager to begin talks with the top-ranked firm. The vote did not approve a design or award a contract. That point matters while the work is still in this early stage. If the talks go well, staff expects an agreement to return to the council on August 25. The same agenda covered 35th Street drainage work and a two-year SEIU deal. August 25 is the next clear checkpoint.
The city posted its property-tax reform presentation
A proposed state property-tax reform is expected on the November ballot. It would raise the homestead exemption for non-school property taxes. Boca estimates an annual revenue loss of about $8.14 million if the exemption rises to $150,000. That loss grows to about $16.73 million at $250,000. The upcoming budget would not change. Any impact would begin in fiscal year 2027-28 and phase in over two years. City staff says the council may then face choices about service levels, budget priorities, tax rates, fees or other revenue. The tradeoff is a larger homeowner exemption and less city revenue. Those are the city's stated options if revenue falls.
Geronimo brings New Mexican cooking to Atlantic Avenue
Geronimo Tequila Bar and Southwest Grill opened in January at 105 E. Atlantic Ave. after a year and a half of "coming soon" signs. The former Cabana El Rey space now has handcrafted wood ceilings, walnut-barrel booths and a large indoor-outdoor bar. The menu focuses on New Mexican food and Hatch chiles, from chile stew and chiles rellenos to a Navajo taco made with duck, plantain-olive salad and frybread. Its tequila list includes rare bottles alongside more familiar pours. The Delray restaurant is a short drive north for Boca diners.
City Manager Mark Sohaney took public safety questions
The city's "Let's Talk Boca" series held a public safety session on Wednesday, August 19. City Manager Mark Sohaney was the host. Residents could meet city leaders and ask questions. They also heard about Boca's public safety services and priorities. The session introduced new Police Chief Jarad Phelps. Fire Rescue Chief John Treanor and Deputy City Manager Jim Zervis also took part. The city streamed the session on Facebook and YouTube. Future talks are set for September 16 at Downtown Library and December 2 at Spanish River Library.
